About Righto
Righto was created to make general legal information easier for people in Victoria to find, understand and use.
Why Righto exists
Righto was founded by a former sworn member of Victoria Police who served for approximately five years. That experience provided firsthand exposure to how difficult laws, police powers, individual rights and legal processes can be for members of the public to understand—particularly during stressful or unfamiliar situations.
That practical experience became part of the motivation for creating Righto: a Victorian legal information app designed to make general information easier for ordinary Victorians to access and understand in plain English.
Previous service with Victoria Police is relevant practical experience, not a legal qualification. Righto is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice.
Independent and Victoria-focused
Righto is independent. It is not affiliated with, authorised by or endorsed by Victoria Police, the Victorian Government or any other government agency.
Information within Righto is prepared using relevant legislation and authoritative government and official sources. Those sources are identified and linked within the app where appropriate. Laws and procedures can change, so users can report information they believe may require correction or updating through Righto Support.
Every screen should make a difficult subject easier to understand.
Serious topics deserve calm language, useful cautions and clear pathways to help.
We explain Righto’s limits and when professional legal or emergency support may be needed.
